Privacy Policy

PashtoType ("we", "us") provides a free, browser-based Pashto keyboard, typing lessons, practice drills, typing tests, typing games, a leaderboard, and completion certificates. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account we collect your email address, a username (auto-generated from your email unless you choose one), and a password (stored as a salted hash — we never see or store it in plain text).

Typing activity

For signed-in users, we store: lesson progress (best WPM and accuracy per lesson, attempt counts), typing test results (WPM, accuracy, consistency, mistakes, difficulty, duration, completion time), and typing game scores (best results per game, difficulty, and mode).

Certificates

If you complete the full lesson curriculum, we issue a certificate containing a snapshot of your display name, completion date, and best/average WPM and accuracy. Certificates are reachable only via a unique link (/certificates/[id]) — we don't publish a public directory of certificates, but a link you choose to share is viewable by anyone who has it.

Leaderboard

The public leaderboard (/leaderboard) displays username, best WPM, accuracy, level, test count, and streak for ranked users. This is visible to anyone, signed in or not.

Data stored on your device

We use your browser's local storage (not cookies) to keep you signed in and to cache lesson progress, typing test scores, and game scores on your device. If you use the app as a guest (not signed in), this local cache is the only place your progress is stored — it is not sent to our servers until you create an account and sign in.

Analytics and advertising

We do not currently use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts. If that changes, we'll update this policy before any such tool goes live.

How we use your information

• To operate your account and authenticate you (sign in / sign up).
• To save and display your lesson, typing test, and game progress.
• To rank and display the public leaderboard.
• To issue and verify completion certificates.
• To respond to support requests you send us.

We do not sell your data to anyone.

Data retention

We keep account and activity data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we delete your account data within a reasonable time, except where we're required to retain it (e.g. to resolve disputes or comply with legal obligations).

Third parties

We share data with our hosting/infrastructure provider only as needed to run the service (storing your account and activity data on our servers). We don't share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties for their own purposes.

Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us (see below) — self-serve account deletion isn't available in the app yet, so we handle these requests manually. If you're in the EU/EEA, UK, or another region with statutory data protection rights, these requests are handled under the same process, consistent with rights such as access, rectification, erasure, and data portability.

Children's privacy

PashtoType is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do; material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
